Include keywords in hyperlink anchor text

There is evidence to suggest that your site will receive greater credence by the search engines, for a particular keyword combination, if you use those keywords in hyperlink anchor text.  This applies both internally to your own site, as well as externally in inbound hyperlinks to your website.

Internally, you should use keywords in hyperlink anchor text.  For example, if you would like your site to be recognised by the search engines as a 'bookstore', you should include that word in hyperlinked text on your website - accordingly you might rename your link to your 'Help Desk' to 'Bookstore Help Desk'.

Note: you should avoid using 'click here' as anchor text and replace this with keyword-specific text instead.

Externally, you should encourage other sites to link to your site using specific keywords in the hyperlink.  Using the above example, you might ask other websites to link to 'Boomerang Books Bookstore', rather than just 'Boomerang Books'.  This will strengthen your standing in the search engines for the search term 'bookstore'.

ACTIONS:

  • Use keyword combinations in your on-site hyperlink anchor text.
  • Get rid of all the 'click heres...' on your site
  • Ask other sites to link to yours using specified keywords in the hyperlink
