Action ListWrite good links
Google and other major search engines heavily rely on link anchor texts to specify the position of web pages in the search results. It's important that you form your links correctly so that you get maximum search engine penetration. The link anchor text is the text that is used to link to another web page. It is the text between the anchor tags. Some tips for writing good links: 1. Write links as part of the body text, as if the link doesn't even exist - for example: You can book hotel rooms at the best hotels in Amsterdam. Search engines like links that appear in the 'normal' body text of your page. 2. Do not describe the mechanism behind the link - for example: do NOT use: Click here for hotels in Brisbane; it's better to use For further information, visit our hotels in Brisbane page 3. Ensure that the link makes sense even if it is taken out of the page context: for example: do NOT use: Visit the Getaroom website; it's better to use Visit the Getaroom website. 4. Make sure that the link anchor text explains where the link leads and doesn't produce any unexpected surprises. For example, if you are linking to a PDF document, it is appropriate to include that information within the linking text (eg.You can download a PDF of the manual on our website), so that the user expects a PDF to be downloaded upon clicking the link. Many website visitors do not read the text on a web page, but instead scan the highlighted keywords only. For that reason, your link acnhor text should be descriptive and easy to understand, even if people haven't read the surrounding text. Use keywords in your link texts whenever possible. The more often a keyword appears in a link to a certain web page, the better are the chances that this web page will get high rankings on Google. On the Netpreneur's Action List: |
